Cheer Someone Up Today

Why not cheer someone up today?  It’s amazing how just one word of encouragement can make such a huge difference in someone’s life.  You’ll be very surprised at how good it makes you feel to cause someone to smile.  This world needs more smiles and more pleasant words.  Retirement is a time when you appreciate life and are very thankful that you don’t have to work anymore.  It should also be a time when we encourage those who are still struggling to get to that point in life when you don’t have to work for a living.  Everyone needs a word of encouragement now and then.  Everyone needs a cheer leader.  Why not become that source of happiness for others?

Cheer someone up today and see what a difference it can make.

The next time you’re in a restaurant and see how hard the people are working and stressful it can be when a waiter or waitress is suddenly hit with two or three new tables at once, take a moment to tell your server to relax and take their time.  If you’ve ever worked in a restaurant (as I have), you know how difficult it can be when the place is packed, there are people waiting for tables and you just got bombarded with two more tables of four.  I remember it very well.  I remember people asking when their food was coming and reminding me that they placed their order fifteen minutes ago.  Do you know how much a sympathetic word would be appreciated in a situation like this?  We often will tell our server to serve everyone else first and get to us when you’ve cleared up your backlog of orders.  We’re retired.  We never go to a restaurant with the need to get in and out of there in a certain time frame.  If we have another appointment, we will leave a lot of extra time.  We have found that this has led to much more pleasant experiences.  We love the reaction of our server when they know we are on their side.  Why not cheer someone up today?  You won’t believe the difference it will make.

Double Rainbow

Life can be hard.  There are people who get bad news all the time about a death or illness or the loss of a job.  A simple call or note to tell them you’re thinking of them might be just what they need.  Cheer someone up today and you find that it will bring a smile to your face as well.  Life is too short for negativity.  People are too fragile for harsh words.  Life is too precious to be rushed.  Slowing down and savoring life will bring a sense of peace, satisfaction and gratitude that can’t be bought at any price.  Cheer someone up today and be a part of building them up rather than tearing them down.  The world is full of critics.  Most of us are our own harshest critics.  We don’t need any more of them.  What we need is a few more cheerleaders who will brighten our darkest moments.  It is a great joy if you have a cheerleader in your life.  There is no reason you can’t be the cheerleader for others.

Roosevelt and Churchill

People need encouragement and so do countries.  In times of trouble, the great leaders are the ones who bring their country together.  People who study history know the difference a good leader can make.  When Franklin Roosevelt became President during the worst economic crisis in our history, he changed the attitude of the country with his inspiring words.  Churchill did the same thing for the United Kingdom during the Second World War.  Many people believe that those two leaders, Roosevelt and Churchill, saved the free world.  Of course, it took more than just words, but the words themselves were extremely important.  Words make a difference in people’s lives, and we all have a choice about the words we use.  The power of the written and spoken word can never be overestimated.  There are some people who have been very hurt by the words of their parents or other people in their life.  While one can argue that they have to “get over it”, the better choice would be for them to have never been put in that situation in the first place.  That’s where each of us can play a part.  We have great power in our words if we choose them carefully and we can have a bigger impact that we can possibly imagine.  Why not cheer someone up today and find out?  You’ll be helping that person and making this world a better place.  Go on and give it a try.  It’s time to Enjoy Retired Life!
