Is Easier Than You Think
Almost everyone can use some extra retirement income. Unexpected expenses or the opportunity to travel often cause people who are usually on a fixed income to wish they had a way to generate a little extra cash. Many times, it’s easier than you think. It just takes a little time effort and imagination, and the best part is that it can end up being a lot of fun. Here are a few ways to generate a little extra retirement income.
The first one is pretty obvious and that is to consider a part-time job. While it’s the last thing that I would want to do, some people don’t mind the whole idea of working, especially if it’s a pleasant environment. And there is something different about doing it in retirement because, usually, you’re working for some extra retirement income and not needing the money to put food on the table or pay the rent. I say usually because everyone’s situation is different. The added benefit is that you’re working toward a goal, so you have an added incentive. Saving up for a car or a cruise can be a great motivator.
Extra Retirement Income May Be Right In Front Of You
Another way to generate extra retirement income is to look around your home and declutter. People who do this say their life has been transformed by this process. It has become almost like a cult. Getting rid of things you don’t need anymore is a way to simplify your life and cleanse your spirit. I’m not sure how much I buy into that (I’m a bit of a collector) but many people do and the opportunities to sell your “merchandise” has never been better. Indeed, many people make a nice living selling on E-bay and they start with their “junk” around the house which often becomes someone else’s “treasure”. If you have anything even remotely valuable, you should look into this method of generating extra retirement income. Do you have a collectible like baseball cards, figurines or even old vinyl records? There’s a market for it. Old pictures of famous people like Churchill, Elvis, Hemingway or the Beatles can bring a few dollars into your bank account that you would not have had before.
Don’t be surprised if this turns into a business once you see the possibilities. And that’s another avenue for you to consider. Starting a little business can be a very manageable and low investment process with today’s technology. With the internet, the world is your marketplace, and you can grow your enterprise to be as big as you want it to be. Did you know retirees are one of the growing demographics for those who have started their own website business. It makes a lot of sense when you think about it. Anyone who has been fortunate enough to get to retirement age has a lifetime of memories and knowledge to draw on. Chances are good that they have developed a few hobbies and interests that they've gained a lot of knowledge about. Why not turn that knowledge and interest into a website? People just like you are doing it all the time, and I have the case studies to prove it. Some have been quite successful. Who knows, you may start the next Amazon. Stranger things have happened. Never doubt that - anything can happen.
When you look at the growth of Amazon, it’s hard to believe that they started with just books. I am an amateur historian, and I was blown away by the books I could find online through Amazon. I watched them add different categories over the years and now the question is more like what can’t you buy on Amazon?
Of course, books bring up another possibility – why not write one? Do you have a novel in you? I happen to think almost everyone has a story to tell either through writing painting or some other creative endeavor. Can you imagine turning that emotional release and your creative spirit into an income? People do it all the time. Why not let that be your story and your way to earn extra retirement income? Writing is one of the great hobbies of all time and there are a lot of different ways to make money if you like to write. With just a few customers, you might be turning work away. It’s time to look at what’s possible and get out and do it. Don’t feel sorry about your situation if money is a roadblock. Turn that obstacle into an opportunity and you will be amazed at the sense of fulfillment you get from that experience. It won’t be because of what you get out of it but, rather, who you become. Your desire for extra retirement income can be a path to becoming an even better person. You’ll be someone who takes on the world and learns how to Enjoy Retired Life.
