Keep Your Life Exciting In Retirement

Retirement can be the most enjoyable time in your life.  Your time is completely your own and, if you keep your life exciting in retirement, you will never be bored.  There will always be something to look forward to.  When I look at the things we enjoy most, travel and food top our list, but we also enjoy reading and plays.  Now, many people will say that it takes money to do all of those things, but I think you can enjoy all of those things no matter what kind of budget you have.

When it comes to looking at the cost of these activities, travel probably tops the list so let’s take a moment to see how you can make the most of your travel dollar.  First, as a retiree, you have the ability to travel almost anytime you want and that will open the door to taking advantage of off-season rates and giving you the biggest bang for the buck. Cruise companies and hotel chains offer “quiet time” rates that are quite attractive.  Even better, there are less crowds, so you have a much more relaxed pace. Also, don’t overlook your nearby attractions which can turn into lovely day trips.  Too often we take for granted the places that are right in our backyard.  You can keep your life exciting in retirement by being a little more flexible and making a list of places that might be of interest.  An internet search can often reveal some hidden gems all throughout our country and, if you have the ability and desire to travel abroad, your list will fill up fast with intriguing places to go.

Travel is a great way to keep your life exciting in retirement.

Food is a world unto itself, and we have enjoyed many cuisines and many great meals that we have tried to re-create at home.  This leads to entertaining friends who share your passion for food or even dining excursions as a group to explore the restaurants in your area.  New experiences are a way to keep your life exciting in retirement and food and wine or the local brew are great ways to expand your culinary horizons.  And, if dining out is a strain on your budget, cooking at home is a way to save money and start a very enjoyable hobby.  The internet is filled with free videos that will show you step by step how to make even the most complicated dishes.  If you want to splurge, consider taking a cooking course with some friends.  It’s a very enjoyable evening and a way to learn some very valuable skills.

Learning is the key to an exciting existence and, when you look around this incredible world that we live in, there is a lot to learn.  Books are my guilty pleasure, and I have my small library organized by subject.  Finding a consuming interest and passion is a way to keep your life exciting in retirement.  My great interest is history, and I never get tired of watching events of the past influence the life we are living today.  One of my morning rituals is to see what happened on this day in history.  The site I go to also lists birthdays and those who died on this particular day.  Almost always there is something I want to learn more about and, if I don’t have a book on the subject, our county has a very good library system that will be able to ship the book to our local library within a few days unless there is a waiting list for the book which sometimes happens.  One good subject can keep me occupied for hours and it often spills over into the next day.  I know that would be absolute torture for many people, but it has kept me out of trouble for the past eight years.

The Cruise Experience Can Be Life Changing

I think everyone has something that will keep them interested and absorbed so that life becomes an endless quest for information or a daily challenge to do something new.  And, if money is a problem, you can make that part of your objective as well.  Indeed, if you have money coming in on a regular basis, this alone can keep your life exciting in retirement.  How do you make that happen?  The best way is to link a money-making activity to something you have a great interest in.  Write a book or articles about travel and watch how exciting life becomes when you get your first check.  Start a website on something you’re passionate about.  A presence on the internet is easier to create than you think, and, in my opinion, one company stands above all the rest.  They do an amazing job in training you even if you don’t have the slightest technical skill.  If you can write an e-mail, you can start a website and, once you do, your world will change forever.  You’ll have access to a global audience and marketplace which is something that didn’t exist for the average person when we were in high school.  It’s a lot of fun and very satisfying, so why not give it a try?  It’s time to Enjoy Retired Life!
