Are you looking for extra money in retirement? If you are, you’re not alone. Many people can use a few extra dollars here and there, but they don’t want to go out and get a job. The good news is that they don’t have to. There are many ways to generate extra cash and, as a few of our friends have found out, there’s not only a good deal of money to be made, but a lot of fun to experience in the process. While we all know that we should take a look at our budget and cut back wherever we can to help make ends meet, sometimes it’s nice to find a few extra dollars at the end of each month to splurge on a nice dinner or save for that cruise you’ve been dreaming about.
When we’re looking for extra money, it’s not a bad idea to look at what might be right in front of us. As they say, one person’s junk is another person’s treasure and, at one time, you probably treasured the things that are lying around your attic or basement but wouldn’t mind getting rid of some of the things you haven’t looked at for a while. There can be some valuable surprises, and it won’t take you long to find out whether you’re sitting on a gold mine or perhaps just a nice pay day. In the old days people would have a garage sale or rent a booth or table at the antique mall. While you can still do that, and it might be a bit more social than the modern alternative, technology and the internet have given you the potential to have a storefront that is visited by the world. It really is amazing and, if you’re looking for extra money, this may be a great place to start.

Websites like eBay are the equivalent of a worldwide garage sale and, if you have something that someone else is looking for, the search capabilities that exist today will match you up with a buyer quicker than you thought possible. And you can have a lot of fun doing it. Our daughter found some old Christmas ornaments that were given to her by a friend. They were not the kind she would buy for herself, but she took them to be polite. She recently brought them over so that my wife could take them to Goodwill or some local Thrift Store. What happened next surprised all of us, including my wife. She just happened to be curious about one of the ornaments and looked to see if anyone was selling it on the internet. Sure enough, there were at least five people on eBay selling one ornament for anywhere from $79 to $129 dollars. It was too intriguing to pass up. In three days, she had sold five ornaments and pocketed almost $200 with the buyers paying for the shipping and the label being printed in minutes to be attached to the box that would be shipped off to the customer. It was that easy and my wife is smiling with a great sense of accomplishment. My daughter couldn’t believe her mother would attempt this because it’s very unlike her to want to sell something to make money. But she was curious about it and decided to give it a try and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Is this a new business for her? That’s very unlikely but that doesn’t mean it can’t be a business for you. Why not? Even if you’re not in need of money, this can be a very engaging activity that gets you excited and trying new things. If it happens to bring a few extra dollars, what’s wrong with that. Go out to dinner, save for vacation or give it to the poor. There are more retirees who are running a little business on the side than you realize and many of them are making a very nice income. There is something very satisfying about making money through your own efforts rather than being paid for performing a job. We are very fortunate to be able to live a very nice lifestyle but don’t think for a minute that it doesn’t bring a smile to my face when I generate a sale from this website. Some of the links that people click will take them to a merchant who will offer them a product. If a purchase is made, I will earn a commission. The process is called affiliate marketing and many of your fellow retirees are doing the same thing. Even more of them are selling their old collectible items on eBay and some of the truly creative ones are selling their own crafts that allow them to continue their hobby or interest and make some money at the same time. Why couldn’t that be you?

If you’re looking for extra money, why not come up with a plan to make it happen rather than going out and getting a regular job. It can be a lot more satisfying and, often, a lot more lucrative. Your own website is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and, with affiliate marketing, you don’t have to do anything to have the money show up in your account. If you’re selling actual merchandise, you wrap the product up securely, place the shipping label on the package and wait to get paid. It’s easier than you think and I think you’ll get a little sense of pride to realize you have your own little business. Why not give it a try? If you’re looking for money, there are many ways to get it. Start turning those things around the house that you haven’t looked at for years into some cold hard cash. It’s time to Enjoy Retired Life!
