Making Money Is A Great Hobby

Making money is a great hobby.  I know that sounds a little strange, but the fact is, when you no longer need to work to cover your day to day living expenses, it’s amazing to investigate all the opportunities that exist for making extra money while keeping your mind engaged and learning new things.  I might have been a bit unusual in that I always took an interest in investments.  It has been a hobby of mine since I was about twelve years old.  My father was part of an investment program at work, and he used to get a quarterly report listing all the stocks that were part of the mutual funds that he contributed to.  He would let me keep track of the stock price for each company and I really enjoyed doing it.  There was no internet back in the early sixties so I would have to look up the stocks in the newspaper.  My fifth-grade teacher had explained the stock market pages to me during our recess after lunch and I used to ask him all kinds of questions.  Yes, I know what you’re probably thinking.  Yes, I was a nerd, and you probably would have hated me if I was in your class.  I didn’t do it to suck up to the teacher either.  I really was fascinated by all the numbers on these pages.

When it came to managing our investments, I took a conservative approach and relied on the financial advisers that were part of the investment company.  I always asked questions however and challenged some of the decisions that they made.  When we retired, I ended up with a nice little fund that I kept control of although the bulk of our investments were managed professionally.  I even purchased some trading programs and subscribed to some investment services. Making money is a great hobby and I have had a lot of fun with my research.  Losing money is not too enjoyable but, with a little practice, you can learn to minimize your losses and know when to keep your money on the sidelines. I still manage this money today and it’s the money that we use to take our vacations which have exceeded anything we had ever thought possible.  It’s not because I’m such a great investor (although I have done pretty well) but rather because the stock market has been almost constantly rising.

Making money is a great hobby and there are many ways to do it.

It is exciting to watch your investments grow and that’s why I say making money is a great hobby.  With the technology that is out there and the changes to the investing rules, almost anyone can get into the action at almost any level.  You can invest in stocks, currency and even bitcoin.  If you’re knowledgeable about a particular industry, you have a great advantage over the average investor.  As with anything having to do with money, you should never risk more than you can afford to lose.  The people who say that the stock market is glorified gambling are not far from the truth and there are investment strategies that I will never use because I don’t fully understand them.  I follow the advice of Warren Buffet who has said that if he doesn’t understand an industry and how companies make money, he doesn’t invest in them.

The investment world has changed drastically and there are opportunities for the average investor that never existed before.  You can be part of investment groups that manage real estate, invest solely in start-up companies and even become part of a hedge fund that offers attractive returns that were once only possible for the extremely wealthy.  Making money is a great hobby and there are more people involved in it than you can possibly guess because it can almost become addictive and the lure of uncovering the next Microsoft, Amazon or Nvidia will keep you coming back for more.

But you don’t have to invest to have fun.  You can be a resource of information for others.  Company research for investors sells for a premium and it’s amazing what you can find out about a company with the power of the internet.  Many people have their own websites that provide information and reviews of the investment firms and trading platforms that are out there and make a very comfortable living with their referral fees or affiliate commissions.  Your website doesn’t have to be about investing at all.  Retirees are starting their own little side businesses all the time and earning commissions through reviews and articles about a particular subject, and they enjoy every minute of it.  Why?  Because making money is a great hobby and it’s easier than ever to use technology to earn commissions, sharpen your investment skills or even research real estate investment opportunities.

You don’t have to risk a single dollar to begin this journey.  Spend a couple of hours of research exploring all the possibilities and I think you’ll be amazed at what’s out there.  I have enjoyed my retirement by doing exactly that.  It’s great entertainment to read success stories and ask yourself why couldn’t that be you?  Making money is a great hobby!  Why not explore the possibilities?  It’s time to Enjoy Retired Life!
