It’s always nice to have an extra source of income in retirement so it might be good to know that there are a couple of perfect businesses for retirees that don’t involve a lot of physical labor or a hefty amount of money to get things started.  There are even a few that can work very nicely with a lifestyle that involves a lot of traveling.

I have to say that I never understood how people could think that retirement was boring.  I started this website because someone said that, after just a couple years of retirement, they were thinking about going back to work.  I couldn’t believe it.  He had been a police officer who complained about his job every time you met him and now, he was saying that he had “run out” of things to do in retirement.  I was stunned.  The idea of a small business had always appealed to me, but I had never thought about starting one in retirement.  When I came across a website about presidential homes that was started by a person who had become newly retired, it got me thinking about starting a website of my own and it soon became clear that there were a couple of perfect businesses for retirees that had a website as their focal point.  The internet has given every would-be entrepreneur access to a global marketplace.  We live in an amazing world.

So, what are these perfect businesses for retirees?  As I said, the internet has changed almost every business there is.  Does anyone go shopping in a store anymore?  Although the answer is still yes, there is a growing segment of business being transacted online and almost everyone can take part in that market.  Individual owners of an online business are a growing segment from sites such as e-Bay to other retail sites that are focused on a specialty business that is usually related to a specific interest that the owner has.  Customized merchandise is ideal for this type of business and the number of retirees who are generating an income from this type of activity is growing all the time.

This website doesn’t sell specific merchandise, but it can generate income from advertising or referring someone to another online business that will pay a commission for any sale that is made.  In my opinion, a website is one of those perfect businesses for retirees and it’s very easy to get one started.  The more time you want to spend on it, the more money you can make and trust me, some retirees are making a substantial income from their online presence.

As you might expect, this trend toward generating income online is not just for retirees.  Our daughter has found a very creative approach to generating a loyal viewer base by reading stories to young children at home.  Adventures with TLC reflects her interest in educating children and her love of performing.  She has a couple of websites as a matter of fact.  One is focused on the reading activity and the other on her performance and vocal lessons.  She is living proof that you can create an income by focusing on something that you enjoy doing and music and performing have been at the very core of her existence since she was about eight years old.  This is a perfect business for her, and she’ll probably continue to work on her website development skills because she has found out how interesting and challenging it can be.  That’s why a website is one of those perfect businesses for retirees.  You’ll never be bored; there is always something new to learn and the possibilities are endless.

There are a number of people in our little upstate community that have developed an online presence by using a hobby or interest in something that they would be doing anyway.  Photography and cooking are shared by a few people who have their own YouTube channels but the only limit to what you can do is based on your creativity.  Do people make a living from travel writing or photography?  Of course they do.  Does anyone have a business where their main activity is reviewing a movie, play or even a restaurant?  Absolutely.  Starting a website is definitely one of those perfect businesses for retirees or almost anyone for that matter.  Anyone who isn’t completely happy in their job can start a little business online to supplement their income and, perhaps, create enough revenue where they can quit the job they dislike and spend their time doing something they love.  Just imagine if you could travel the world and get paid for it?  The internet makes that possible.  Why not give it a try?  It’s time to Enjoy Retired Life!
