Reliving Your Youth Can Bring Back Memories

Reliving your youth can bring back some wonderful memories and can take you back to a time that will bring a smile to your face just thinking about it.  I think most people have pleasant memories when they think back to your younger days and recalling some of those memories will help you realize what a wonderful life you had.  Friends from your past can help make those distant days and memories come alive again.  Music is a great way to help you recall a different time in your life.  It’s amazing how certain songs will take you back to a specific memory.

I have found the internet to be a treasure trove of information that will help you relive your high school and college years or even your younger days.  Reviewing the Billboard Hits and replaying some of those songs will surely bring back a memory or two.  The interesting thing is that a particular song may not be one of your favorites.  It just triggers a very pleasant memory.  The Elton John song “Crocodile Rock” and “You’re So Vain” take me back my very early twenties when I was working forty hours a week and trying to go to college full time as well.  I spent a lot of time with one particular friend, and she used to sing along while we were driving somewhere and, to this day, those songs will take me back to that time.  It’s amazing how those songs will still bring a smile to my face.  Reliving your youth can bring a smile to your face in an unexpected way.

Reliving your youth can transport you to a happier time.

There was a song called "The Things You Do For Love” that was popular when our daughter was born and that song will instantly take me back to the day I became a father.  We had no money in the bank, but my wife and I still look back to those days with tremendous gratitude.  Reliving your youth can make you realize all the things that you are grateful for and an attitude filled with gratitude can only lead to happiness.

But it isn’t just music that helps you recall your past.  For me, old sports clips will take me back to a time when everything revolved around what Mickey Mantle did that day.  I absolutely worshipped him as did thousands of other kids.  I was born at the end of his rookie year (yes, I’m very old) and was graduating high school as he was ending his career.  Back then the World Series was played during the day so we would rush home to see the end of the game.  During school someone usually had a way of getting the score and the updates, so you had some idea about what was going on.  I will watch some old broadcasts to relive that special time.  The Yankees were in the Series almost every year and many of those games went down to the wire.  One of my earliest memories was the perfect game by Don Larsen.  Mantle homered and made an incredible running catch of a line drive off the bat of Gil Hodges.  I wish the quality of the broadcasts were better but it’s still fun to watch.  Reliving your youth can take you back in time.

Baseball wasn’t the only sport I followed.  Football was a close second especially after I watched the Green Bay Packers win the Ice Bowl.  It’s interesting that football seemed like a slower sport than baseball back in the day.  Games were usually over in two hours and football would take three.  Now, football seems like the quicker sport because the clock is relentless.  I have to say I lost some interest in baseball when the games started taking four hours or more.  The recent rule changes are an improvement.  Times change.  Reliving your youth can help you realize how different things are as you get older.  Most people are shocked when I tell them how big a boxing fan I was because even I think that sport is a danger to anyone who participates in it.  I will say, however, that I found out that Ring Magazine has made their whole archive of magazines digital, and you can see past issues from the 1920’s.  It’s interesting to read how they covered the Dempsey era right through Louis, Marciano and Ali.  It brings back some wonderful memories, and I found out about it by searching the internet and finding website started by a fellow boxing fan.

It’s interesting how many retirees have created a website focused on a passion or hobby that they have.  It’s one way to make a little extra money but it’s also a way to add some excitement to your life and it can be one of the most challenging things that you’ll ever do.  The best thing is that you don’t have to be a technical wizard to create a money-making website because there is a company that will walk you through the process step by step.  And, although it’s very nice to create an extra income, the biggest reason to do it is the tremendous enjoyment and sense of satisfaction this undertaking will bring into your life.  It may be a way to resurrect an old hobby or interest and turn one of your youthful adventures into a life-changing business.  Reliving your youth can be more impactful than you ever thought possible and sharing it with others can give you more enjoyment than you can imagine.  So go on and explore the possibilities.  It’s time to Enjoy Retired Life!
