A New Retiree?  Now What?

Finding yourself become a retiree can be a pretty big deal and a mixture of relief, worry and excitement.  We’re here to focus on the excitement aspect because there’s a lot to be said for the retired life.  Not everyone feels that way, but we think this is the best time of anyone’s life if they’re prepared for it.

How do you prepare to become a retiree?  The best way to do it is with a little research.  As you get closer to this time in your life, start listening to what other people who have reached this status have done.  Some of their stories are quite inspiring.  You’ll find people embarking on world travels, starting new businesses and learning new skills.  There’s almost no limit to the possibilities that await you during this new stage in life.

The best part of it is that you’re in control.  What I came to realize during my life was that I was more in control than I thought.  It seemed like there was a schedule to follow where you graduate high school, go to college and prepare yourself for a career.  Once out of college you find a job and work as hard as you can and advance your career.  Hopefully, during this time, you’ll meet the right person and start a family.  In many ways it seemed that much of my life was pre-ordained.  That was my own shortcoming – nobody else’s.  I was living the life I created but I wasn’t aware of how much an impact I had in creating it.  Somewhere in my mid-thirties, I read my first self-improvement book and it opened up a whole new world.  I couldn’t get enough of this new discipline that I became enamored with.  Sure, I had heard some of these ideas before.  When you graduate high school the message is that your life is what you make it, but I had never taken these words as seriously as when I read my first of many books from the self-improvement section of the library and bookstores.

Life is a series of choices - even for the Retiree

I started to realize that life was a series of choices.  Yes, there were the expected choices and the paths that most people walked down but those did not have be the same directions you chose to follow.  That is true through every phase of your life and even more critical during retirement.  Why more critical?  Let’s be real here, there’s less time in front of you all the time.  Less time to correct any poor choices and certainly less time to waste.  This is not meant to be doom and gloom, just a fact of life.  You should enter into retirement as if your life depended on it because, in some ways, it does.

The choices you make as a new retiree will set the course for your retirement and help determine whether it will be a boring snooze or an exciting chase to learn new things and see new places.  You don’t get there by living one day at a time.  Having a plan and timetable of all the things you want to get done will be a major step in accomplishing all the retirement goals that you have.  You be able to turn pleasant thoughts into great memories.  Instead of saying wouldn’t it be nice to do this, you’ll find yourself actually doing the things you had only dreamed about.  The life of the retiree will be as exciting as you make and this website is your invitation to make the most of this wonderful time in your life.

Whether you’re a new retiree, a seasoned one who’s been waiting to get back in the game or one who anticipated this life a few years down the road, this website has been designed for you.  Explore the ideas about places to visit, things to do or skills to develop and even find out how to make money along the way if that’s a desire.  Becoming a retiree was one of the best things that ever happened to me and it keeps getting better every day.  Its’ time to Enjoy Retired Life.
