Retirement Gives You
The Freedom You Never Had

Retirement gives you the freedom you never had while you were working.  If you’re anything like me, you spent forty, fifty or even more hours commuting and working at a job where you were, for the most part, told what to do by upper management. When you cross the finish line and find yourself basking the freedom that retirement gives you, it can come as a bit of shock for some people to find that their time is completely their own.  Their calendar is blank.  There are no meetings or conference calls.  They can do whatever they want to at whatever time they choose.  Sadly, some people can’t handle all this freedom and find themselves complaining about having nothing to do.

Retirement gives you the freedom you never had while you were working and raising a family.

There is no shortage of websites and advisors who give wonderful guidance about how to prepare for retirement financially so that you don’t run out of money but there aren’t too many that help you figure out how to spend all this extra time retirement gives you.  This website was started to do exactly that.  There are many pages with suggestions about how to get the most out of what I consider to be the best time of your life.  In my opinion, retirement gives you the freedom you never had while you were working.  You had to fit in your hobbies and interests whenever you could because work dominated your life and raising a family took precedence over all those forgotten dreams you had from your younger days.  I wanted to see the world but only twice in forty years did I get to take a two-week vacation.  Travel was the number one thing on our list when my wife and I set out on our first retirement journey eight years ago.  It was a twelve-week trip across the southern United States which allowed us to escape the winter cold and see places we had never seen before.  From Key West to New Orleans to the gulf coast of Texas, we traveled at a leisurely place and gleefully absorbed everything these places had to offer from the food and historic sites to the little towns and wonders of nature.  We have made every winter an exciting road trip and cannot believe everything we have seen.  We didn’t just see the United States.  The winter months are a great time to see Rome, Athens and southern France.  We made the most of our time by using a guide from an established company because that is absolute best way to use your time wisely, see everything you want to see and learn as much as you can about these wonderful places that you may not see again when you think about it.  A good guide is well worth the money.

But traveling isn’t the only thing we’ve enjoyed.  We have taken up cooking to try to reproduce the wonderful dishes we’ve enjoyed during our travels.  From the spaghetti carbonara in a small restaurant in Venice to the wonderful breads of France and the Cajun dishes of New Orleans, we have taken some classes online to hear the secrets of some of the great chefs.  Learning new things is what keeps life interesting and retirement gives you the freedom you never had when you were working.  Would I ever find the time to take a writing or photography class?  The closest I got was listening to audio books during my hour-long commute to and from work as I was dreading some meeting that was scheduled or recovering from some disaster that occurred during the day.  I truly have enjoyed the relaxed pace that retirement gives you.  I used to take courses on how to reduce the stress in your life and one of the pieces of advice that was very sound but somewhat impractical was to prioritize your tasks and try to do less.  Try telling that to upper management when the sales quotas of the company are not being met.  Retirement has brought a complete sense of peace that was difficult to find during my working years.

This website has many suggestions about new adventures you can think about and explore.  From the traditional activities like golf and travel to the less popular ones like knitting and woodworking or gardening and photography, exploring this website will give you things to think about and new activities to try.  This is the time to do it.  Retirement gives you the freedom you never had before and a new chance in life to live out that hidden dream or fantasy that I think everyone carries around with them.  There’s nothing holding you back.  We have suggestions for everything.  While you may not be able to realize your dream of winning an Oscar, you can get an amazing sense of satisfaction by being a part of a local theater company.  All you need to do is take the first step and enjoy the journey.  That’s the secret to a fulfilling life.

And if you think that a lack of money is an excuse, we cover that as well.  Starting a little business on the side is a wonderful way to challenge yourself and make a little income as well.  There are many businesses that are perfect for retirees.  I came to realize that when I started this website.  That wasn’t part of the plan when I first retired, but I found out that I really like doing this.  When your business is related to something you like to do, it’s more like a hobby.  When you can do it on your own schedule, it’s not really work.  Retirement gives you the freedom you never had when you had a job.  I never really had a job that I liked and was rather surprised that I would even consider starting a website about my all-time favorite topic: retirement.  After all, I’m not a computer programmer and I thought that a website requires all kinds of expertise.  I found a company that will lead you step-by-step towards creating a website that people will visit.  I’m shocked that thousands of people come to my website every month and, if you consistently get enough traffic, making money is a nice reward that can come your way as well.  I think everyone should consider a little business as they’re saving up for retirement or as they enter into this wonderful period of life.  It’s a great way to fund all those trips you’ve been thinking about.  Go on and give it a try.  It’s time to Enjoy Retired Life!
