Did you know that it’s possible to create retirement income from your hobby? There are many ways to do this and, when you think about it, why wouldn’t you do it? Even if you don’t need the extra cash each month, there’s something exciting about getting an extra paycheck at the end of the month. You can always donate it to your favorite charity or buy something nice for the people you love. Perhaps you can save up for a family vacation. The fact is that sometimes the amount of money people make from their hobby in retirement is more than they made in their working years.
We know a couple of people who embarked on new “careers” after their retirement and pursued one of their interests to keep them occupied. Without planning it they found themselves in a situation where they could supplement their income while doing something they like to do anyway. Friends of ours love to dance for exercise and now host lessons and dances in the community center where they live. Another acquaintance of ours escaped the working world and became immersed in his hobby of woodworking. After furnishing his house with his handiwork he started taking consignment orders and looks forward to each day doing something he loves with the knowledge of a nice payday in his future.
If you’ve looked around this website, you know that we like to travel and there are many people who have made a living by travelling. Writing articles for travel magazines and selling their photographs is not unusual and with the expansion of the internet the demand for more content is continually rising. Why couldn’t you be the person who writes a review of a museum or restaurant? The interesting thing here is that part of your travel expenses can be deducted from your income. You should always consult a tax expert, but many people write off some of their travel expenses by writing an article or review made possible by their journey. Creating retirement income from your hobby is easier to do than ever and travel is one of the most lucrative fields there is to grab your share of extra cash.
Keep in mind that when you devote years to a hobby, you’ve naturally begun an expert in that field. Never underestimate how valued your opinion will be and it’s a very nice feeling to pass along some advice that will help other people in their pursuit of that same hobby or interest. When you can get paid for an activity you enjoy doing, it’s really an ideal situation. Some of my friends do odd jobs around their golf course for extra money or even a free round. Always remember that your experience is valuable and the opinions and insights that you’ve formed over the years count for something and there’s no reason you can’t get paid for the wisdom you’ve acquired over the years. Generating retirement income from your hobby is a real possibility. I guarantee you that your first extra paycheck will put a smile on your face when you realize that someone is willing to pay for doing something you enjoy doing anyway.
Technology has made the picture even brighter because your circle of influence doesn’t have to just be the people you meet during your daily activities. You can actually have people from around the world listening to what you have to say. If you turn your hobby or interest into a website you’ll be amazed at the number of people who will find you and read your words of wisdom on a subject you love to write about. It’s one of things people are doing every day. And that’s especially true of retirees because they have the time and the interest to devote to this new hobby that’s creating a new income. Within our own community we have people who have not only created their own websites, but they’ve started a You Tube channel of their own. There are at least two people who are doing weekly podcasts. This is a different world that we live in.
If you’re like me, you have many different interests. It was a hard decision about which topic to write about, so I chose my favorite career choice – retirement! It was a way I could combine all of my favorite subjects under one umbrella. I’m sure there are some people who would say that it’s too broad of a topic but it’s my website and not theirs. I spent forty years in Corporate America being told how to do things and the worst part was knowing some of those directives were dead wrong and destined to fail. Do you know how liberating it is to be your own boss? I am very happy I started this new hobby that has become a platform for all of my other hobbies. It is very rewarding, and I am always finding new things to write about and that’s the part that I like best. There are always new things to learn, new people to write about and new experiences to share. I think that everyone is involved in a hobby or interest that could generate some extra money for them. There is nothing better than creating extra retirement income from your hobby or interest. The possibilities are endless and the fun that awaits you is better than you think. It’s time to get started. It’s time to explore the possibilities and Enjoy Retired Life!
