When Money Gets Tight

Nobody likes it when money gets tight.  Let’s be real, extra money is always preferable to finding yourself short every time a bill comes in.  It can be a temporary situation or even a way of life for some people.  I know quite a few people who never seem to have enough money to get through life.  How people manage money is a good indicator of how they will spend their retirement years.  It gets even more critical, however, when your working days are behind you and you no longer have the earning power that you did when you were younger.  Fortunately, there are things that you can do.

The logical thing to do is to cut expenses and reviewing your budget and where your money goes each month is a very wise thing to do.  If you look at your largest expenditures, you should look for ways to reduce them if at all possible.  While some may not be negotiable, many can be and some can be reduced with a little effort.  Heating bills can be addressed by turning the thermostat down just a bit especially at night and dressing warmer.  Electrical bills can be reduced by unplugging appliances that aren’t being used.  Did you know that some small appliances can add to electric bills just by being plugged in?

Obviously if you eat out a lot, cooking more meals at home can be a great way to save money, have more fun than you thought possible and eat better food than most restaurants.  Cooking shows give you step by step procedures and great recipes for you to try.  Someone in our community actually has her own YouTube channel that she runs from her kitchen.  Try watching some of the cooking resources that are online.  They’re a lot of fun to watch, filled with ideas for tasty meals and inspirational in getting you to start down the road of one of the best hobbies you can have: cooking!   You can save money, learn a skill and eat better than you ever thought possible.  When money gets tight, a home cooked meal will remind you of how wonderful staying home can be sometimes.

While we’re on the subject of watching someone’s cooking channel on YouTube, why not think about a business that you can start on your own?  Are you handy around the house?  There are people who will talk you through the process of fixing a leaky faucet, installing a window or even blacktopping your driveway.  Do you have an expertise?  Why couldn’t you be the one doing these videos and making some extra cash especially when money gets tight.  If you have a decent cell phone, you have what you need to get started because the phones of today are better than the cameras that were used to film television shows in the fifties and sixties.  Retirees are finding the internet to be a great pathway to a new business venture.

When money gets tight, a website can provide an extra income.

Websites are a great way to start a new hobby and create a new business with very little capital.  When money gets tight and you’re struggling to make ends meet, a website might be exactly what you’re looking for.  Create a website today and you can create an income stream that will continue to pay for years to come.  I know this from personal experience.  My first website was about pugs, and I received a commission check last month from a dog training program even though I haven’t done any work on the site for more than three years.

One of the best things you can do to stay active during your retirement years is to do something new and I have found websites to be something that will keep you interested and challenged for many years to come.  If you’re willing to watch some instructional videos, there’s one company that will take you step by step in building a website that will attract thousands of visitors every month.  It’s fun and exciting and it never gets old when you get the news that you’ve made a commission because someone followed one of your links and made a purchase.  When money gets tight, you’ll be very happy that you have this extra income to fall back on.   In fact, a website might help you to avoid those situations where your spending exceeds your income.  The bottom line is that a website can be a lot of fun especially if you’re writing about something you have an interest in.  I love retirement and started this website so everyone would make the best of this wonderful time that far too many people take for granted.  With a website you can see the world and write about it or learn to cook and demonstrate it or go to the movies every day and have a place where you can post your reviews.  What do you enjoy doing?  Why not start a website and tell everyone about it?  Go ahead and give it a try.  It’s time to Enjoy Retired Life!
