To enjoy good health in retirement is a true blessing and is something I am very grateful for. As we age, health problems can become a struggle and, sadly, many people just accept it as a part of growing older. I don’t question that it is, indeed, a part of growing older but I also think there are things you can do to feel better every day. Some of them are obvious like a healthy diet, regular exercise and getting a good night’s sleep, but we tend to forget how our outlook on life impacts how we feel. I was an avid reader of self-help books and Zig Ziglar was one of my favorites because he blended humor with some excellent lessons on how to control your mind to maintain a positive outlook on life. It’s always a matter of perspective. You could tell someone that they looked like the first day of spring and bring a smile to their face or observe that they looked like the last day of a long, hard winter and have a completely opposite effect. You have the power to control your mind’s perspective.
I know a lot of people regard this as “positive thinking nonsense” but I know it has made a difference in my life mentally, emotionally and even physically. I would never discourage anyone from seeking help if they are feeling depressed and need professional attention, but I hold a very strong view that working to change how you view the world can have an incredible impact on your life. We know problems occur, but the most important thing is not the problem itself, but how you react to it. Maintaining a positive outlook on life will help you feel better every day even when things are not going as planned.
During my working years, I was very prone to a depressed outlook on life and would fill my head with positive messages on my morning commute. These messages came from Dr. Wayne Dyer, Tony Robbins, Bob Proctor and the previously mentioned Zig Ziglar and they always got me to realize how fortunate I was and to look on the positive side of life. It definitely worked and they inspired me to start exercising, to be more aware of what I was eating and to avoid the people in life who just seemed to specialize in telling you how bad things were going to be. Surrounding yourself with positive people and socializing with them on a regular basis will create an environment where it becomes natural to feel better every day.

Stimulating your mind can also improve your outlook on life. Please don’t spend hours upon hours in front of the television or always get your news from the same source every day. Expanding your perspective is one of the healthiest things you can do and seeing an issue from all sides will help you gain a better understanding of people. I’m not saying you have to agree with them, but it helps if you try to understand them. I know I’ve had my mind changed by listening to a point of view that was different from mine. After realizing what they said, I did further research and came to the conclusion that their perspective made more sense than mine. We should all reserve the right to change our mind and get smarter every day. The day we stop learning new things is the day we stop seeing the wonders of this wonderful world. If you make it a habit to spend as much time outdoors observing nature, you can’t help but develop a tremendous sense of gratitude and that alone can make you feel better every day and feel like you should spread the good news to someone else.

While I think controlling your mind and feeding it with new things and challenging ideas, I think your body needs the same kind of help. As we age, the muscles start to ache a little more and the body doesn’t do things the way that it used to. As you might have guessed, I did some research into the aging process as well and discovered some interesting facts especially about inflammation and the immune system. While our doctor would never endorse a supplement because of a lack of testing for most of the products out there, one company has done some blind testing with some pretty amazing results, and I have to tell you I’m a great believer in what they offer. My wife and I have been taking one product called Nopalea for more than ten years and can tell you that it actually works. We forgot to take it along with us on one of our trips and felt the difference within three days. My point is very simple. We’re all aging and we can watch our bodies start to develop little aches and pains or we can try to do something about it. If you’re having those little symptoms of old age cropping up in your life, why not take a look at some of the supplements that are out there and find something that works for you? It’s a wonderful thing to feel better every day. Start exercising, eat sensibly and change your mental outlook because it’s time to Enjoy Retired Life!
