This website discusses all kinds of things having to do with retirement and how retirees earn extra income is certainly one of them. After all, who is going to turn down some extra money to go out to dinner or save up for that dream vacation you’ve been planning for years? Finding ways to make some extra money after your working career has ended may be as simple as looking at how you love to spend your time and then getting a little creative so that you can turn that activity into a money-making enterprise. It's probably easier than you think.

My wife was a teacher and knows a lot of former educators who tutor on the side to make a little extra cash and to do something they really enjoy doing - teaching! Tutoring is a great way to find some rewarding work and make some money at the same time. Education is one of the greatest assets an individual can have and taking the time to help a student excel at a particular subject can be a very rewarding exercise. It’s one of the most popular post-working activities for retirees but is just one of the ways how retirees earn extra income and have fun at the same time.
One of the best ways to make money at any age is to find a need and supply an answer through a service or a product. One of the most popular services among retirees is to take care of their pets while they’re traveling. Pet sitting, house watching and plant watering are great ways to earn a little extra money for any retiree. While many people do it as a favor, especially for a neighbor or friend, there’s nothing wrong with offering a reliable service within your community. We spend our winters in a warmer part of the country and before our daughter lived close by, we struggled to have our mail taken in because the post office would only hold it for 90 days and our winter journey was going to be longer than that. You can add “mail service” to pet sitting and plant watering to your list of ways of how retirees earn extra income.

While providing a service is one way to make extra money, providing a product is another one and you don’t have to invent anything to take advantage of this strategy. Many seniors do crafts that can be sold especially in honor of the birth of a new grandchild or some other family event. Quilters and knitters come to mind in this area, but we also know of some woodworkers who make extra money from their hobby. A profitable hobby might be one of the best ways to bring in extra income but there are other ways as well and one of your past jobs might be something you look at as well. It’s becoming more and more popular for employers to use “virtual” assistants to perform administrative tasks as well as freelance work. When you look at how retirees earn extra income, many are working remotely and choosing their hours and their assignments. Freelance writers can make a very attractive salary. Many retirees even start their own business so never rule out that possibility. You may even find yourself with your own little website like I did.

When I retired, I had no intention of doing anything but traveling and seeing the world. Unfortunately, the pandemic caused a complete disruption to everyone’s plans. What were we going to do if we couldn’t travel or go out and see friends? Everyone in the world had the same problem and the way I solved my dilemma was to start this website. I had thought about doing travel articles based on our travels so why not write content for a website that I owned. It’s one of the lowest investment businesses that there is and it fulfilled my desire to write and the best part was that everything I wrote was immediately accepted by my editor (me)! It’s been more fun than I could have imagined and I can write about almost anything having to do with retirement. I truly never gave much thought to how retirees earn extra income because I had no intention of working again. But I don’t consider this to be work. It’s something I enjoy, and I can work in my other hobby of photography almost every day. We get to write off certain business expenses, but I probably don’t take advantage of that as much as I should. And the fact is that I would do this anyway even if I didn’t make a dime.
Thousands of retirees are making extra money from one of their hobbies or interests and there’s no reason you couldn’t be one of them. A good hobby provides a challenge and a sense of purpose and starting a website can be one of the most rewarding activities you can do. Where else can you have your own platform and a worldwide audience? When you make a list of how retirees earn extra income, how many activities on that list include a global marketplace? Retirement is the time to make the last of your dreams come true and, if starting a business was once a forgotten ambition like it was for me, starting your own website might be the answer. It doesn’t cost as much as you think and it’s more fun than you can imagine. Why not give it a try? It’s time to Enjoy Retired Life!
