Making Money in Retirement

Making money in retirement is easier than you might think if you start with a clean slate and examine all the possibilities.  It doesn’t mean you have to go out and get a job either, but you can, if that’s what you really want to do.  It doesn’t even mean you need the money, although who couldn’t use a little extra pocket change now and then?  I never liked any of the jobs that I had.  I had a successful forty year career with a great company and had many different jobs during my four decades of working but I didn’t really like any of them too much.  My favorite time was when they left me completely alone.  It won’t surprise you that an independent and enjoyable way of making money in retirement is the focus of this section.

There are many different paths to being able to deposit a couple of extra dollars (sometimes hundreds or even thousands) into your bank account but the ones that attract me the most are the ones that allow me to practice or develop a skill such as writing or photography or leaning the inner workings of how to make money on the internet.  In fact, it’s easy to combine all three and create a money-making website relatively quickly.  The question to consider is the nature of the website.  For me, writing was something I enjoyed doing, so creating content about a subject I’m very passionate about (retirement) was something that I looked forward to doing.  I found a great company that guided me each step of the way and I looked forward to learning new things, seeing my writing being enjoyed by visitors to the website and reveled in the fact that this was something I could do on my own time whenever I felt like it.

Fortunately, I was not driven by the need for money.  You should keep in mind that this type of website takes a little time to develop to the point where you’re attracting hundreds of people a day.  The fact is you need thousands of people per day to start making a substantial income.  But there are two things to keep in mind.  First, the number internet users numbers in the billions (at least four billion) so the possibility of attracting a thousand or more people every day is very real if you work at it and keep adding content on a subject people want to read about.  The second thing to keep in mind that the money you make can bring you into the six figures depending on what you promote.  If making money in retirement is a true need, the internet can help you get there.  You might want to take a slightly different track than I did, however.  My focus was on writing and sharing information with making money a nice benefit.
