A Lot of People Have a
Dream to Retire Early

The ability to retire early is something a lot of people dream about.  It certainly first and foremost on my mind as found myself in my late fifties.  For a while I thought I would be able to do it but, then, the Great Recession of 2008 occurred, and I watched my 401K get cut in half along with everyone else’s.  It was devastating.  People don’t remember how scary it was because the country came out of it rather quickly relatively speaking.  When you read about how the Great Depression lingered, you come to realize the way we dealt with the economic events of 2008-9 was far more effective.  But my dream to retire early had to be put on hold.

As we rebuilt our finances and approached retirement age, some of our friends questioned our wisdom about giving up our careers and cutting off our income.  Even worse, what would you do all day?  I was amazed at that question and then realized they were very serious.  I would have loved to have been able to retire early because I never had any doubt about how I was going to spend my time and, even better, I knew how relieved I would be to leave Corporate America.  In fairness, Corporate America was very good to me, but I couldn’t wait to get out.

Do you have a curiosity about the vastness of the universe we’re a part of or what happens at the bottom our oceans?  Or how ancient civilizations were build and what happened to them?  Did you want to study astronomy, archaeology, geology, geometry or learn another language?  These opportunities and more await you.

Did you want to pursue a hobby or sport that you’re interested in?  Did you want to take up golf, cycling or pickleball?  Did you want to add to your collection of coins or stamps or antiques? Did you want to start a garden or learn how to cook?  Did you want to brew your own beer or make your own wine or even start your own distillery?  The time is now!

Retire Early?  There’s nothing better.  But how do you make it happen?  There is one thing that I think everyone should do and that is to start a little business on the side.  It can be a lot of fun, especially if it's related to one of your hobbies or interests but it can also do something else that's one of the keys to retiring early and that is to generate more money that can be saved for retirement.  It can give you extra money to fall back on if your primary income becomes compromised in some way.  I was always afraid of losing my job because the company I worked for was involved in at least a dozen mergers and takeovers.  Whenever that happens jobs are usually lost and salaries are quiet often reduced.  I was very fortunate; I came through every acquisition and merger in great shape, but I always thought I should have something to fall back on like a small business.  It would provide me with a "safety net" and help me do the thing I wanted to do most which was retire early.

What kind of business should you start?  This website was what I did after I retired, and I really do wish I had started it while I was working.  It has been more enjoyable than I ever thought possible and I found a company that provides very simple instructions that anyone can follow.  If you have the skills to send an e-mail, you have everything you need to start a website that will be a great source of pride and, possibly, provide you with an income that will allow you to retire early and give you another way to fund the retirement of your dreams.  Retirees are doing this in record numbers and enjoying every minute of it.

I have enjoyed writing about my favorite subject which is retirement!  It's the best "job" I've ever had.  I'm working my way through the places we want to travel to and all the things I want to learn.  I look forward to adding to this website whenever my schedule permits and I keep finding new things to write about.  Why not consider doing something that's fun and can put a little extra money in your pocket to do all of those things you thought about doing?  It's time to Enjoy Retired Life!
