Retirement Articles Can Be A Good Resource For Information

Taking the time to scan retirement articles in the newspaper, magazines or on the internet is a good habit to develop as you look for ways to enhance your enjoyment of retirement.  From the hidden gems about places to travel to or the money saving tips offered by many different magazines, the few minutes it takes to search around can yield many benefits.

I’ve been fortunate enough to be accepted for submissions of articles on a few different topics and am always gratified to hear back from someone who appreciated the advice that I gave.  You can develop your own favorite resources and use them to further your research into a topic that has interest for you.  Subscribing to a newsletter is an option but I would suggest that you try a free one first rather than commit any money to something you may lose interest in quickly or not read at all.

Many times, the retirement articles you come across will be part of a forum where other people can contribute their opinions as well.  This can make for some fairly interesting reading, and you’ll broaden your horizons as you expand your information network.  You’ll find a wide choice of authors for financial advice but many of the newsletters or services offered can be very pricey so watch for an introductory special if that’s something you’re interested in.  Retirement articles on travel and hobbies are usually part of a travel magazine or a periodical dedicated to whatever hobby you’re interested in.  Many of the old magazines are gone or have been re-vamped into a digital format so do a search on the topic to see what’s out there.  It was always surprising to me how focused some of these magazines were and, in some cases, still are.  Model railroading, for example, has a passionate following and there are quite a few magazines dedicated to this hobby and others to scale modeling.

I think it's important to have a hobby or an interest that you feel passionate about.  I have a lot of interests, but my absolute favorite is history and visiting historical sites or presidential homes.  Franklin Roosevelt lived in the Hudson Valley which is where we built our retirement home and it's a place that's always a treat to go to.  So was Sagamore Hill on Long Island which his cousin Theodore's estate.  I think my favorite, however, is Mount Vernon which was "heaven on earth" for George Washington although Monticello and Mr. Jefferson's great architectural skills never fail to give me a sense of wonder when we visit.  There are many retirement articles suggesting historic places to visit and I've written a few myself.

You Can Write Your Own Retirement Articles

Of course, you could write your own retirement articles if you want to explore the world of writing and publishing.  It’s an easy way to get started and a great way to see if writing is something you’d like to try.  Getting a couple of articles published may get someone interested in your work with solicitations to write content for a website or online magazine.  Many people have launched writing careers with a few article submissions and then watched their careers take off.  If that sounds like something you’d like to try, by all means go for it.

You would be very surprised how many retirees have started their own website.  It's a great hobby that I stumbled upon by accident when I read a couple of retirement articles about starting a business in your "golden years" if money was an issue.  I am fortunate to not have a money problem but my interest in this enterprise was to discover an outlet for my fascination with writing and exploring everything that interested me about my favorite subject: retirement!  I couldn't wait to retire, and I have enjoyed every single day from my morning coffee to my wine with dinner each evening.  It has exceeded every expectation that I had and so has maintaining this website.  You don't need to be a technical wizard, and you'll be very intrigued by the number of ways you can generate an income as you do something that is truly enjoyable especially if it's related to a hobby or interest that you have.  You can create your own retirement articles about any subject you want and can even branch out into your own YouTube channel.  There's one retiree who has their own cooking class and has built up quite a following all from the kitchen in her own home.  But you don't have to be retired to do this.  Our daughter has started her own channel where she reads children's stories with some intriguing puppet work. She's become quite a star with the nursery school crowd!  If you have any grandchildren, take a look at some of her work here.  Do you have a cooking class that you could give or a story to tell your audience?  You might find a new calling.  You never know!

But let’s get back to where we started and reiterate that searching for retirement articles online is a good habit to get into.  It can open up a whole new world of information and opportunity as well and, if you keep an open mind, put you on a path to traveling somewhere you never thought of going to before or trying a new activity that can literally change your life.  Go out and explore the possibilities.  It's one more way to Enjoy Retire Life!
