The YOLO Retirement Trend Is Catching On

The YOLO Retirement trend is something we strongly approve of.  YOLO of course stands for You Only Live Once and it seems to have caught on this past year as the pandemic has impacted life for just about every age group.  The younger generation seems to have looked at their lives and determined that life is too short not to enjoy every single day and it has given rise to many putting their careers on hold and going in a completely new direction.  This focus on enjoying life is to be applauded and too few of us really take it seriously.  After all, it’s true that you only get one shot of this thing we call life.

For many of us who are rather conservative in their outlook (like me!) the idea of taking this You Only Live Once outlook and applying it to their life in their twenties or thirties might be a bit extreme.  But I’m all for taking this attitude and applying it to our golden years and creating a YOLO Retirement movement.  Let’s face it, we’re not getting any younger and if we don’t start doing all the things we ever dreamed about now, when exactly are we going to do it?

The YOLO  Retirement Attitude Can Change Your Life

Bringing the idea of a YOLO Retirement to your life may be the best thing that ever happened to you.  It will turn every day into a new adventure.  It will bring a new urgency to your day-to-day activities.  It could very well instill a Do It Now attitude into your outlook on life. If you’ve ever toyed with the idea of starting a new hobby or learning to speak another language, why not start today?  The hardest part of anything is taking the first step.

The YOLO or You Only Live Once concept is not new, of course.  Back in our day, Carpe Diem, or Seize the Day, was a popular slogan that means basically the same thing.  There’s no time like the present is another saying, and they are all true.  Make it a point to re-engineer your post-work time into a YOLO Retirement.  Make it a point to begin something new in your life starting today.  Begin a new hobby – learn to paint, start woodworking or buy a boat if you can afford it.  Start making travel plans – make a list of new destinations and places you’ve never seen.

If money is a problem, never overlook the possibility of turning your interests into an income producing activity.  Starting a business could be your ultimate YOLO Retirement activity.  Give it a try.  It’s time to Enjoy Retired Life.
